Back to being an Amazonian…

Just heard back from Amazon. They have extended my offer and have hired me again! So with that I will be working for the internet giant full time.

My Orientation date is still TBD which gives me time to acclimate to my meds (hopefully they don’t see this ha.) Thanks for the support on my blog. Things are falling into place.

Look out for my future post about “Amazon and my second time around.”

If you haven’t read my amazon posts, what are you waiting for? They are in my “Amazonian Insider” category.

Amazon Review from a true Amazonian (Intensive Care) Part III

The Amazon Resignation Process is simple, yet many of you will fail to grasp the reality of “Quitting on Good Terms”within the walls of your Amazon Fulfillment Center for the 30 mins it takes on the phone. For me it was at ONT 6. (The letters before the number correspond to the Fulfillment Location and the nearest major airport, in this case ONT would be Ontario.)

So You Want To Resign?

You put in long hours, used up your UPT and PTO, you are sore, tired, or possibly your boss just plain pissed you off? You want to yell out and and slam doors, screaming profanities when you quit, well I would ask that you do not give yourself a bad reputation. Amazon makes it simple to resign on good terms and the awesome part about it is, you can save yourself for Re-hire.

Resignation Tidbits:

  • Don’t storm out.
  • Don’t just stop going to work.
  • Talk it out with your boss.
  • Take your leave first? (not always the best idea, look into it.)
  • Call as soon as you have notice that you wish to quit.
  • HR is on site you can talk to them and work everything out.
  • Must wait 90 days to apply again.

It is similar in any job, if you are upfront with the employers about your resignation to seek other avenues of employment or just simply, need a break, resigning on good terms will allow for “re-hire” to be stamped on your folder. Don’t be like the ignorant who simply stop coming to work, or blow up like the guy in the movie ‘Half Baked,’ “Who’s coming with me?”

You don’t want to burn your bridges because you never know what will happen down the road in life, you may simply need to come back to Amazon in the future as I did.

How I Resigned:

I called HR on the phone, (you should receive a card with their number when you are hired) after going through the security junk, I let HR know that I wished to resign from Amazon with my “Good standings in tacked.” The lady was very helpful and put my mind at ease.

I made sure that I got all of her information for future records. I expressed that “eligible for Re-hire” was clearly put on my file and I continued to express this. She assured me that since I was still in good standings, and had not abused my time working for Amazon that in the future I could be re-hired if need be. Stating also, that I needed to wait at least 90 days to turn in a new application.

See, Simple.

Over the weeks and months I continued to call Amazon HR and check my re-hire status, it checked out. Still eligible. This would prove to be a great asset to me since my other avenues did not seem to work out and I would have to apply again, which I happened to do two weeks ago.

P.s.

Most of the injuries at Amazon and other warehouse positions are from people who haven’t had great posture in the past few years. (Drink Water Too.)

Bad Posture:

  • Texting Neck
  • Slouching
  • Weak Back Muscles
  • Making you look 10-15 lbs heavier

It’s not too late to fix this and create a better healthier body for your stresses that will surely effect you while working your shift at Amazon Fulfillment. The #1 Muscle Information That FIXES Ugly Forward Head Posture, Trouble Sleeping, Text Neck and Back Pain can be found by Clicking Here!

The Amazon Orientation is simple, yet many of you will fail to grasp the reality of “Staying Awake”within the walls of your Amazon Fulfillment Center for the 8-10 hour process, for me it was at ONT 6. (The letters before the number correspond to the Fulfillment Location and the nearest major airport, in this case ONT would be Ontario.)

Orientation:

Arrive early which is always helpful to any new employee. This will allow you to familiarize yourself with the layout and ask around for directions on where to go. Though Amazon will clearly mark your destination and meeting location for your orientation. Expect to be there anywhere from 6-10 hours, the great thing about this is you will get paid for a full shift even if you leave early, if I remember correctly we were out of there by the 6th hour mark or so and got paid for a full day.

Security will collect your ID’s and gather you into your group. Once the time comes you will be brought into your orientation room where you will end up signing all of the hiring paperwork that is common with all new hires of the job.

You will watch videos on how the company performs and what you will need to expect while working your job, these videos can be long, drawn out and boring but they do offer plenty of laughs if you have a good group of people. The videos will go over safety, sexual harassment, open door policies, and all of the usual discrimination factors that are always a zero tolerance.

Once everyone’s formalities are signed and handed in, the ambassadors will get to work on your badge pictures, and will input all of your information into the computer system to get you your work schedules and departments. (sometimes this will come later I have found out.)

You will get many breaks through out this process and can usually leave at any time to use the facilities. Breaks are nice because you will be able to see the awesome break rooms that Amazon offers it’s employees, I won’t ruin the surprise here.

I have left many details out so as not to step on the toes of the ambassadors that work hard in putting these orientations together and providing all of the information that they do.

Orientation Tidbits:

  • You will have speakers from many departments.
  • Safety and keeping your hands to yourselves is expressed a lot.
  • Expect to, hurry up and wait.
  • Get paid for attending.
  • Receive your schedule before leaving.
  • Finish your formalities quickly so the others can get done and get you out of there.
  • Kick back and relax.

Have you been hearing the horror stories about the injuries and harsh working conditions for the job that you are currently going to work? Well, most of the injuries are from people who haven’t had great posture in the past few years.

I hope that using the technique above will help sustain you through the rigors of the job and allow you to continue your career for a long while at Amazon. You see, it’s a battle of the mind and body, people with weak minds and sore bodies will quit and lose out on the advances that the elite Amazonian’s can master.

Amazon Review from a true Amazonian (Intensive Care) Part I  This will explain some of the weaknesses that you can strengthen in order to continue to thrive at your Amazon Fulfillment Location.

Amazon is always hiring, and there are locations everywhere, even overseas where many of you may see this article, please feel free to ask me about the hiring process, and how you can get started.

The Amazon hiring process is simple, yet many of you will fail to grasp the reality of “working hard”within the walls of your Amazon Fulfillment Center, for me it was ONT 6.

After putting in your application and Amazon likes what they see, you will proceed forward. You are first contacted through email about your “contingency offer” this is the offer of employment that has been extended to you,  here you will schedule your appointment for your hiring event.

The Hiring Event:

You will most likely meet at or near the fullfilment center that you have applied to, be sure to bring your government issued ID, and please for the love of Peter dont be like those yuppies that wear sandals to the event. It is here that you will drug test and be tested to see if you have a pulse.

The event is kickback and cool, you will be given the run down on how Amazon is run and the work you’ll do. Okay, it must be this event that the Yahoos dont pay attention to, because I hear, read and see all the bad reviews on how Amazon is a slave driver job who overworks their employees. Now having been through two hiring events I know for a fact that the event explains the hours and work load, so shut it and work!

Working hard is what gets you tired and paid, coming into work and putting in hours will leave you with a feeling of accomplishment when you hear friends got their orders on time.

Yes, Amazon is hard work and if you dont drink water and stop taking drugs you’ll probably quit. But dont leave bad reviews and say its a death trap when you dont put in work and listen to advice. No wonder they hire so many VETs who know what hard work is.

More About The Event:

  • No Interview.
  • If you pass the drug test, background check and have a pulse you will be hired.
  • Waiting 10-14 days for results is the hard part.
  • Next Step is (Paid) Orientation!
  • Benefits from Day 1.
  • People Drop, Pass Out, Cry and Run To AmCare. Get used to it.
  • Dont use up all your PTO and UPT in your first month. (Paid And Unpaid Time Off).

Dont complain about being from the temp agency and put down blue badges (Amazonians) when you were the simple dummy who didn’t go directly through the fullfilment website. The turnover rate is high because people dont expect or refuse to get acclimated to the hours and build the mental strength to put in work.

Management is sometimes a shit sandwich show of insolence, however, there are some great teams that keep you going. Give it about a year and see what can be accomplished, you’ll be able to make a better decision if it is for you or not? Resign on good terms and you’ll be allowed back, unless you take the offer.

You can always improve your Millionaries Mind while at Amazon, by reading into it and heeding its focused steps. Reap the benefits, before, after and while on lunch.
